Our Wedding

In 2022, Max followed Taylor on the website formerly known as Twitter because they agreed on faith and politics, and he thought she was cute. She followed him back, and for the next two years, they had a crush (what Taylor would refer to as an "emotional support crush") on one another without the other knowing. Then in 2024, Taylor jumped into Max's DMs with a joke about Oklahoma (Max's home state—thanks for the assist, Twisters!). They started chatting, and on Taylor's birthday three weeks later, she told Max she thought he was cute with the encouragement of her best friend (and some liquid courage, admittedly). From there, they started talking on the phone multiple times a week for multiple hours at a time, and eventually visited each other in Michigan and Oklahoma. After 11 months of long-distance dating, Max got a job in Detroit and made the 900-mile road trip move to Michigan. He and Taylor dated for another six months before he asked her to marry him, in front of the very restaurant in Detroit where they had their first IRL date. Max and Taylor are excited to include you in the next chapter of their story on October 17th.

The best chocolates around, with fun flavors like Bumpy Cake (Max's fav and a homage to the classic Michigan dessert), Lemon Bar None, Salty Sap (Tay's fav) Killer Cereal, and Swimming Turtle.

San Morello

A modern Italian restaurant and cocktail bar in downtown Detroit that's not only where we got engaged (although it is that), but also a great place to enjoy pasta, pizza or prosecco. Stopping in for a drink doesn't require a reservation, but we recommend it if you're getting dinner.

Grandma Bob's

You can't come to Detroit without getting Detroit-style pizza, and this is the best in town, in our opinion.

The Congregation

Set in a restored historic church, The Congregation is one of our favorite spots to grab coffee when Max works outside the office.

Tony V's Tavern

According to the bartender Matt (say hi to him for us), their cheeseburger will cure all your childhood traumas. We've tried it and we're inclined to agree.

Lafayette Coney

It's a time-honored Detroit tradition to come here and have someone yell at you for your coney order. It's also our favorite spot for a coney dog, one of the city's signature foods.

Alpino

Want to imagine you're being fed by a grandmother inside a cottage in the Alps? Get over here.

Sahara

Shawarma, pita, tabbouleh and toum that will knock your hat in the creek. You'll also get to meet Sam, the owner and maybe the nicest person in all of Metro Detroit.

Sepia Coffee

This place is serious about their coffee—they roast it in-house and make incredible tonics and lattes. It's also inside a former warehouse space that makes for a great hang.

See The City

Detroit Institute of Arts

One of the country's premiere art museums, this is a must-see. This was one of the stops on the weekend that Max first came to visit Detroit, and it's still one of our favorites. Be sure to see the Detroit Industry Murals in Rivera Court, make your way through the impressive collection of American paintings, and stop in for a refreshment at Kresge Court.

Eastern Market

It's the largest historic public market district in the United States, and on Saturday mornings, you can shop from over 150 vendors selling produce, flowers, jam, bread, meat and so much more. There's also plenty of murals and small businesses in the area to explore.

Parker's Alley

This alleyway is a great place to stroll, grab a sweet little treat at Bon Bon Bon or Huddle Soft Serve, and enjoy the scenery and architecture of downtown Detroit. It's also named after one of Detroit's first Black landowners (fun fact).

Cass Avenue and Canfield Street

Detroit establishments like Third Man Records, Carhartt and City Bird are all located in this convenient corridor.

Lager House

For all you music lovers, this Irish pub has been flipped into a venue that hosts touring bands. It's also in Detroit's Corktown neighborhood, which is a great area to explore.
